A GREAT DAY TO BE AT GAKWIYO
Michael Grillone Takes JOM group on Grand Tour!
On July 31, 2017, the Cayuga Nation had an exciting group of visitors at the Gakwiyo Garden in Seneca Falls. The Seneca Nation Johnson O'Maley group from the Allegheny Territory, near Salamanca NY, came out on the perfect day. The sun was out and we had no cloud in the sky.
Michael Grillone, who manages the garden, was very kind enough to take the children on a tour of the farm. The group consisted of a small amount of children from a summer program aging from 8-15.Along with numerous of chaperones everyone took interested as Michael answered plenty of questions.
Starting off in the GreenHouse to ending inside the garage as some children had the chance to see the heavy equipment. The group got to see the process of vegitation and also had the opportunity to try some of the garden crops. The hot peppers that are grown by Grillone and his helpers gained the most attention due to a "eat-off" (who could handle the hotness). Over all it was a fine day and wonderful event for the JOM group.
The message was to "spread the knowledge and importance of agriculture". Grillone mentioned to the group that "growing your own food source can only benefit this environment as well as your knowledge about cultivation". The Gakwiyo Garden crew is proud to provide information on any question you have.
